Product Details

EL6148 - A lovely Wilkinson-made Rifles officer's sword dating to 1879, service sharpened presumably for one of the campaigns around that date or soon after (Zulu Wars, Afghanistan, Egypt, Sudan etc), housed in an Indian style field service leather scabbard with copper alloy fittings. The blade has been service sharpened for the full front edge and a short portion of the false edge. The blade remains in good bright condition, with clear etching and only some areas of light patina and pitting. The maker's name and proof record number are clearly visible, though unfortunately in this case the Wilkinson records do no have a name against the sword. The hilt is steel and has been nickel plated, most of which remains in good condition. The shagreen and grip wire are good and the hilt is firm on the tang. A very nice sword, very nimble in the hand, with a great scabbard and obvious signs of active service.
