Product Details

EL6670 - A top quality Wilkinson 'patent solid hilt' infantry officer's sword, dating to 1856 (finished 1857, perhaps for shop stock therefore). It has been service sharpened, but sadly there is no name on the proof record and no initials or crest, so no way to know who the officer was. However, ordering such an expensive and top end sword in 1856, which has been well service sharpened, suggests they probably had an interesting life in one of the campaigns of the period, such as the Crimea, China or India. The blade is, of course, solid in the hilt. There is even patina to the blade, but the etching remains clear and is highlighted by the patina, being deeply etched. The grip and brass guard are in good condition, and the folding 'drop' functions well and stay in position. No scabbard.
