EL6618 - A Wilkinson 1895 pattern infantry officer's sword, numbered 33968 (for 1896) and with the officer's coat of arms, crest and motto. Unresearched. This was originally a top quality sword, but now in rather poor cosmetic condition. In fact, it is all mechanically solid and sound and the grip is rather good, but it has light rust to all exposed areas and a lot of patina to the blade. Despite this, with some careful work it should be possible to greatly improve this sword and it has great research potential with the coat of arms, crest and motto to help identify the officer. The original sword knot still attached is unusual, and I think might indicate medical service, which is strange because they did not officially carry this model of sword in 1896 (they retained the brass 'gothic' hilt). The scabbard is also interesting, being of leather without a wooden liner, and steel fittings. An interesting sword that should reward some effort.
