EL6679 - The Wilkinson infantry officer's sword (1897 pattern) of Colonel William Henry Lancefield-Staples (1906-1971) of the Welch regiment. He was born in 1906, seemed to have served as a private for some years, and then graduated from Sandhurst and commissioned as 2nd-Lieutenant on 29 Jan 1931, promoted Lieutentant 29 Jan 1934 and Captain 1 August 1938. He served in Palestine 1936-39. He was promoted to Major in 1948 and Lieut-Colonel on 10 April 1950, and retired as honorary Colonel on 31 Oct 1961. As Lancefield-Staples served before, during and after WW2, there is sure to be lots of interesting research to uncover. The sword comes complete with the field service scabbard and two travel bags. The sword is in very good condition - almost parade standard, and could easily be returned to modern parade grade and used by a serving officer. Everything is complete, tight and this is a quality of sword that you simply cannot buy as new now.
