EL6682 - An interesting WW1 sword in quite bad condition, for restoration. The blade has dark patina and areas of rust, the hilt is loose on the tang, the shagreen is dry and tired. The tip has been re-shaped in period. But this sword is interesting! Firstly it has a number of War Department markings, including the approval broad arrow, Enfield factory stamps and dated to 1915. But perhaps more interesting is that it is not an official pattern! It has what appears to be a war time contingency 3 bar hilt, generally regarded as for artillery or light cavalry, but mounted on a thick 1892 pattern infantry officer's blade (but a non-commissioned officer's version). So this should not be an artillery sword, but perhaps for some sort of auxiliary or colonial NCO. Worth some effort to clean up and research.
