Product Details

EL6152 - A WW1 era 1897 pattern infantry officer's sword, by Wilkinson. The proof number on the spine dates this sword to WW1, but unfortunately there is no name against the sword on the record book. This is a shame, because it carried the hexagonal best quality proof slug, but very unusually has a deliberately plain blade, which remains in high mirror polish. The only etching is the maker's name and address and usual surround to the proof slug. The blade is solid in the hilt and is in really lovely condition. The hilt has weathered a bit, with some crazing to the nickel plating of the guard, but is in reasonable condition. The shagreen and grip wire are very good, with a few patches of discolouration to the shagreen which could be removed by re-staining. The scabbard is in tidy condition. This particular example feels great in the hand and the blade is a tiny bit broader at the centre of percussion that is normal for this pattern. The edge and point have been well sharpened for active service. A great example.
