EL6297 - A Victorian light cavalry officer's sword. The blade is deliberately plain (un-etched) for most of the length, only having decoration near the ricasso, and it has been both extensively service sharpened and also nickel plated. The hilt was clearly also plated originally, but most of the plating has gone, leaving a dark patina to the metalwork. The shagreen is in good shape and the grip wire is present (though in need of cleaning). Curiously, two slots have been cut in the scabbards, perhaps to rectify a bend. The hilt is firm on the tang. Overall, an interesting fighting sword that would benefit from some light restoration.
