EL6144 - A Victorian Royal Artillery officer's sword with field service scabbard, made by Pillin (with London retailer etched on the ricasso). Carrying Pillin's proof slug, the blade is mostly bright, with a few rust spots to clean up. The etching is visible, if rather faint. The blade is firm in the hilt. The shagreen is good, with a couple of strands missing to the grip wire and a little bit of looseness to the wire. The guard and backstrap with a pleasing dark smooth patina which may indicate original gun browning that has oxidized further with age.
