A good Victorian infantry officer's sword, retailed by Whiteley and made by Edward Thurkle (according to the proof slug), probably from the 1880s. In good condition overall, with a clean blade and clear, although somewhat faint, etching. The hilt is in particularly clean condition and unusually retains the leather liner, which was not standard on these swords, but usually got lost/destroyed by age when they were originally present. The sword would benefit from some gentle cleaning and the leather securing, and there is a little bit of wiggle in the brass guard. No scabbard.
