EL6664 - A good mid-Victorian infantry officer's sword, 1845 pattern, retailed by Hawkes. The blade has been well service sharpened and is firm in the hilt. The brass hilt is in quite good shape, with only the very smallest perceivable degree of movement. The shagreen is good, but the thinnest strands of the grip wire have gone - this grip seems to have seen quite extended service and this wear is typical of swords worn and carried for a long time. The blade is bright, but has some light rust spots and would benefit from careful cleaning. A good sword, good quality and probably had a long and interesting service life. Complete with matching scabbard.
