EL6166 - A good Victorian example of an 1857 pattern Royal Engineers officer's sword, etched for the Gloucestershire Volunteer Engineers. The blade with profuse and detailed etching, in bright condition and crisp. The gilt brass guard in good condition with some of the original gilding remaining to the surface. Similarly with the gilded brass backstrap and pommel, with sharp chequering. The shagreen good in general, but with a little loss and lifting at the pommel end (this should be glued down), with good grip wire. Together with a field service scabbard of wood and leather.
