Product Details

EL6677 - A slightly unusual combination of a Victorian 1845 pattern infantry officer's blade (plain and unetched) fitted with a George V WW1 era hilt. The proof slug seems to be for the revived Reeves company. This was presumably either for an officer who had been in the Army since before the 1892 pattern blade was introduced, or perhaps a WW1 era officer who wanted an earlier (or earlier style?) cut and thrust 1845 pattern blade. In any case, it's a pleasing combination and a light and lively sword in the hand. The blade seems to have been service sharpened. The sword needs a good clean up and is currently in a neglected state, as it came to me. Despite this, the hilt is all firm on the tang and structurally the blade seems in good condition. Once restored, it should be a nice sword, and being an un-etched blade should make cleaning and polishing the blade quite straight forward.
