Product Details

EL6639 - This sword has been put together (not by me!) in the last decades, by using a very nice 'flat solid' (un-fullered) Victorian light cavalry officer's blade and a later hilt. The hilt is antique, but has been married to the blade, presumable because the original hilt was damaged or removed. I know this because the backpiece of the grip is an 1895 pattern fully checkered example, which has had the checkering deliberately removed to make it look like an earlier hilt. The entire hilt fits quite well, and is firm on the tang, but has been taken from a post-1895 sword (while the blade dates c.1837-1850). The hilt is otherwise in quite good condition, and the blade is very good, having been service sharpened, with nice early Victorian etching. This makes a perfectly fine display sword as it is, or the buyer could seek out a c.1850 hilt to remount this blade to. I have priced this accordingly.
