Product Details

EL6302 - A Victorian 1897 pattern infantry officer's sword, by Wilkinson. Dated to May 1898 (numbered 35811), this sword was sold to the outfitter Flight in the record, but whoever the officer was who bought it had the blade service sharpened, so presumably they served in a campaign (probably Boer War or WW1, or both). The blade is bright and in good overall condition, with a little pitting here and there. The etching is deep and clear, and the service sharpening is well applied. The hilt is solid on the tang and in good general condition, with patina to the guard and back piece. The shagreen grip is very nice and still dark, with very attractive silver grip wire in place. The scabbard is also worth mentioning, as it's a rather unusual type and in nice condition. A lovely sword, from only a few months after this pattern became regulation.
