Product Details

EL6624 - A high quality 1857 pattern Royal Engineers officer's sword, made by Pillin and retailed by McBride of Woolwich (where the Royal Engineers were based). The blade with some pitting, particularly at the tip, but 90% of the blade in bright finish with good deep and extra detailed etching. This was an expensive high quality version of this pattern of sword. The blade has been service sharpened and has a few small nicks to the cutting edge, so it was probably taken somewhere on active service, such as India or Afghanistan. The hilt with wear to the guard and grip from an active life, as has the brass scabbard. A very tiny bit of movement in the hilt, but not easy to notice. A lovely sword that probably had a fascinating career, now sadly unknown.
