EL6378 - There is detailed discussion of this rare pattern in both Dellar's and Robson's books, with the probable conclusion being that this was the sword approved in 1796 for use by the Royal Horse Guards (not then yet part of the Household Cavalry). This example is in bright restored condition, with a modern replacement scabbard. The blade shows an approval stamp and is bright, with light pitting, featuring a similar shape and size to the standard 1796 heavy cavalry pallasch. The hilt is in good condition, bright with minimal pitting, with the grip being in especially good condition, retaining the leather over the wood, but missing the grip wire. The sword is all tight and solid. While the scabbard is a modern replacement, it has clearly been professionally made for this sword and fits very well.
