ELC1015 - A very rare, or possibly unique, Wilkinson infantry officer's sword, to a named officer (see attached photo documents).
This was the sword of then-Lieutenant John Bulkeley Price, of the 38th Staffordshire Regiment of Foot. He changed regiment a few times and ended up as a Major, but in 1875 he obviously felt the need for a special custom sword from Wilkinson (the proof page attached here).
The guard is the regulation brass design for infantry officers, but both the grip and blade are special order. The grip is made of horn and the blade is based on a type known as the 'Percy pattern', but with the addition in this case of three narrow fullers, somewhat reminiscent of French superior officers' sword blades.
The blade is 33 1/2 inches long, double edged, and 3/4 inch wide, so it is essentially like a small rapier blade. The blade is in great condition and high polish, firm in the hilt. The hilt is in equally good condition and the scabbard is brass, which may have been changed when Price was promoted to Major.
A very scarce opportunity to own such an unusual Wilkinson sword.
