Product Details

EL6528 - A very rare sword, being for an officer of the Honourable East India Company navy, and also a hybrid pattern. The blade features the fuller of the Wilkinson 1846 naval officer's sword, but the 'quill' point of the earlier 1827 pattern. In addition to having no proof slug, this almost certainly dates the sword to around 1845-1847, when it was known that the new pattern blade was coming, but the details had not been full absorbed by makers of naval officers' swords. This, of course, was also a fascinating period for the HEIC forces. The sword is in good condition, all complete, though it should be noted that I believe the scabbard to be a later replacement, though of broadly the correct type. It is entirely possible that this is a later replacement by the original officer who carried the sword on service, as it is of the period, if slightly later. The HEIC lion is visible to the hilt and is also on the blade, although the blade etching is very faint. A very desirable sword that ticks a lot of boxes.
