EL6504 - These Georgian sabres with extreme curvature were private purchases and non-service-specific. This was most likely a fighting sword for an infantry officer c.1796-1810, but could just as equally been carried by a naval or artillery officer. With its 28 inch blade it is unlikely to have been a cavalry officer's sword. Horn grip in excellent condition with all the grip wire. Brass guard and back piece in great condition, all solid. Blade bright with some very light areas of localized pitting only. Edge well service sharpened - this was clearly intended as a fighting sword. A lovely piece, only lacking in the scabbard not being present.
