Product Details

EL6909 - A George V 1897 pattern hilt, mounted with a straight 31 inch Continental blade. The hilt is of what I would term WW1 mass produced quality, though with an unusually slender and leather covered grip. The blade is like an 1845 pattern, but straight and slightly broader, and the extensive etching on the blade of floral and armorial motifs, including a suit of armour, look to me to be probably Italian or Spanish. The blade has patina, but should polish up well and this would make the etching easier to see and interpret. The blade is firm in the hilt, and has not been service sharpened, but there are a few dings to the edge from contact with another sword, which should be fairly easy to remove with polishing. The George V cypher in the blade has a small break (pictured) and the whole hilt would benefit from a polish. The scabbard is very worn and battered, with most of the leather missing. An unusual sword in not great condition - priced accordingly.
