EL6387 - A George V/WW1 era Coldstream Guards piquet weight blade, buy Gaunt/Thurkle, mounted in a George V era 1897 pattern line infantry officer's hilt. A curious combination. I can only guess that an officer moved from the Coldstream Guards into a regular infantry regiment, or perhaps militia after leaving the regular Army. Clearly the blade and hilt have been together for a century and this is not a modern marriage. Everything is tight and solid. The blade is lovely, with the full battle honours, extremely detailed and in quite good condition. The grip is in good condition, though the guard has clearly been very rusty and some point, and has then been subsequently over-polished, which has eradicated much of the surface decoration. Priced accordingly.
