EL6262 - An unusually broad example of the 1803 pattern 'flank officer's' sabre, with matching scabbard. My hunch is that with the plain blade (of slightly shorter than normal length at 28 inches) and curious scabbard hanging arrangements, that this was for a sergeant, perhaps of a grenadier company. The blade is in good condition and quite clean, the hilt firm on the tang, the grip of either darkened hardwood or horn (I am not sure which) all solid and secure. The scabbard is complete, though there are some cracks in the 200 year old leather. An interesting and fairly unusual sword, from the Napoleonic Wars era. A proper fighting sword.
