Product Details

EL6685 - A broad and attractive example of a 1796 pattern light cavalry officer's sword, with unusual etched emblem and motto. The motto reads "For My Country & My King", but I am not sure what the emblem represents - it looks like RH intertwined. Some interesting research lies ahead! The hilt is in average condition for the age, having been painted at some time and that paint now mostly removed. It has pitting and is honestly in below average condition. The leather remains on the grip, with a little loss, but the hilt is loose on the tang. The blade however is in good condition overall, and the leather washer is still present. No scabbard. An interesting and very nicely proportioned example of this desirable pattern.
