EL6479 - A scarce square-langet 1796 pattern light cavalry trooper's sabre and scabbard. This is a desirable sword and a good example of a sabre that probably saw active service during the Napoleonic Wars. However there are some flaws to note; the scabbard has some heavy pitting, the grip covering (leather) is completely gone, leaving bare wood, and the hilt (which was obviously as heavily rusted as the scabbard) has been somewhat over-cleaned in my opinion. There is a bit of movement to the guard on the tang, but it is not too bad and could be wedged/shimmed. The blade is in rather good condition and shows lots of period sharpening, which suggests that this sword had an active life in the field. Overall, a good example of the pattern and with the bonus of the scabbard, which is probably original to the sword as it fits the unusual langets.
