EL6585 - A scarce 1821 pattern cavalry trooper's sword, privately made by Parker, Field & Sons. This company was a London outfitter and most famous for selling police weapons and equipment. For that reason, swords sold by Parker, Field and Sons are sometimes designated as police swords (mounted police in this case). However, I am very dubious about that, because we know that they also sold military items to Army officers, and also to Yeomanry and other private organisations. Also, this sword has been service sharpened (which police swords were not generally). I think the most likely conclusion is that this is a sergeant's sword, either bought for him by an officer or friend, or provided by the regiment from private funds. The hilt and scabbard are in need of cleaning up, but are fundamentally in good condition. The leather grip covering is 90% present and the grip wire is very good. The hilt is solid on the tang. The blade is excellent, in original polish with clear etching, though note that the blade has been well service sharpened and does carry some small nicks (pictured). A very unusual and interesting sword.
