Product Details

EL6776 - This is a highly unusual, perhaps unique, modified 1853 pattern cavalry sword. The grip and pommel have been altered, to give a better grip and hand stop, and a new pommel has been added, changing the point of balance. Etched on the blade is the presentation text, "Sergeant Ridgeley, HYC (Hampshire Yeomanry Cavalry), presented by Captain Fleming". Captain Fleming appears in the records of the 1850s and there is lots to be researched here. The blade has some staining and patina, but is in basically good condition, with crisp etching. The guard and pommel are in good condition, as are the leather grips. I am not certain what material the added grip section at the modified pommel is made of, but it seems to either be some kind of hardwood or horn. The leather washer is in place and being a Patent Solid Hilt, the whole sword is solid and sound, with no movement.
