Product Details

EL6779 - A scarce 1895 pattern infantry officer's sword (only made in 1895-96), with a mirror polished (un-etched) plain blade, carrying the trade proof disc of Wilkinson. This sword is fundamentally in good condition, with most of the original mirror polish remaining to the lovely plain blade (plain blades often being found on special order officers' 'fighting' swords, where they deemed the decorative etching superfluous). However there are some small areas of rust, and these require treating and preferably polishing out. The blade is firm in the hilt, and the hilt with VR cypher is in good condition, with high quality shagreen and silver grip wire. Housed in a matching field service scabbard with 'colonial' style steel fittings, perhaps indicating Asian or African service.
