EL6818 - A scarce 1892-bladed Victorian Rifles officer's sword retailed by Hobson and made by Pillin. This Rifles officer's sword features the 1827 pattern hilt, with an 1892 pattern blade. In 1895 a new infantry officer's hilt design was adopted and most other officer's swords after 1895 emulated its straight fully-checkered back piece, which is not present on this sword. Therefore this sword likely dates to a narrow window between 1892-1895. The blade carries the VR cypher, and strung bugle of the Rifles, and has most of the original mirror polish and frost etching remaining in very good condition. The blade is firm in the hilt. The hilt is in good condition, with excellent shagreen and wire, and some patina to the guard and back piece. With the original full dress steel scabbard and remains of the sword knot.
