ELF119 - A scarce British Indian Army cavalry sabre by J. Bourne & Son. Joseph Bourne & Son of Birmingham seem to have been in business from 1867 to 1908, and I would estimate that this sword dates to middle of that date range. This style of hilt was described by contemporaries as a 'tulwar', and the swelling in the middle of the hardwood grip was intended to emulate the grip of the native Indian tulwar, which for many regiments these replaced in the 1870s and 1880s. With a very good condition, service-sharpened, slightly-curved, 31.5 inch blade. Firm in the hilt. The guard and pommel cap are steel and in nice clean condition, with everything tight and solid. This sword feels fantastic in the hand and is a really good fighting sword.
