EL6557 - A scarce Indian Army cavalry sabre, of regimental pattern. The Indian Army cavalry regiments had a lot of independence when it came to regimental swords, and this is a model designed for one (unspecified/unknown) such cavalry regiment. It probably dates to the 1880s or 1890s, though it could be as early as the 1860s. Without a lot more research, these are so varied and specific that they are difficult to pin down currently. Curved sabre blade, well service sharpened, housed in Indian style scabbard. Hardwood grip and steel guard taking obvious inspiration from earlier 1796 pattern light cavalry sabres, which had been re-issued in India in the 1850s due to their popularity. A bit of movement in the hilt on the tang due to the leather washer shrinking with age. The sword is overall in very good condition because it has been varnished! I would recommend removing this varnish, but it has protected the blade very well. A little bit of rust to the hilt, which should be easy to remove.
