ELF163 - A very rare 33rd Regiment (Poona Horse) cavalry sword, dating to c.1910, by Singh & Sons. With a unique style of blade, just over 34 inches long, being a curved sabre with a narrowed back edge to produce a narrower thrusting tip. The steel guard and hardwood grip are potentially inspired by the British 1908 pattern cavalry sword, though experiments with these forms of 'German' grip, as Wilkinson called them, were being carried out in the 1890s and beginning of the 1900s already, before the 1908 pattern was adopted. Made in India by a Sikh firm. Complete with correct and original scabbard, with double-ring attachment point to connect to the saddle. Everything is tight and solid, no movement. The blade has been service sharpened.
