EL6259 - An 1845 pattern Royal Navy cutlass with scabbard and frog. The cutlass is the unmodified 1845 pattern and it is rare to get one with a scabbard in this complete and good condition - even rare to get one with a frog attached. The blade is mostly still in the original polish, with a band of light pitting and dark patina near the hilt, where presumably the blade was left exposed outside the scabbard for some time. There is a lot of the original black paint remaining to the hilt. The hilt is solid on the tang and the leather washer even remains. It's very unusual to find an 1845 cutlass in this complete state now. The blade has not been sharpened, so in my opinion it is likely that this cutlass was preserved by being put into storage for a long time.
