EL6879 - A relic (but solid!) Wilkinson 1828 pattern Highland officer's basket-hilted broadsword. This was a top quality basket hilt from Wilkinson, but sadly it looks like it spent part of its life submerged! Pitting throughout, with all of the etching obscured, including the proof number (if it is post-1854), loss to the shagreen and a couple of small breaks in the hilt bars. Yet despite all this, and testament to Wilkinson's build quality, this is still a solid useable sword! The proof disc clearly shows this is a Wilkinson, and I would guess a relatively early one, from about the 1850s or 60s, due to details of the hilt form and construction. Priced according to condition, but this is actually a nice sword in the hand, and a lot cheaper than one in average condition.
