Product Details

ELF131 - A good 1796 pattern light cavalry troopers' sabre, with unusual guard form. This form of guard with an additional squared sword knot slot at the side is thought by some people to be associated with yeomanry cavalry, but essentially we don't know if that is correct. I have seen several of them over the years and they are fairly rare. A good regulation blade, quite clean and bright, with evidence of edge sharpening and service-related wear. The guard and backstrap quite clean and un-pitted, the cord-ribbed grip with almost all of the leather covering intact. There is a little bit of movement in the hilt due to compression of the leather washer with age. A really good sound example, though lacking the scabbard.
