EL6350 - A rare mid to late-18th century slot-hilted officer's sword (roughly US War of Independence period), with 29 inch sabre blade and sought-after naval engraving (anchor) to the pommel. The grip of a very dark wood (perhaps ebony), with brass wire remaining, brass hilt furniture, firm on the tang (thanks to some shims added at some point in the past). The sabre blade mostly bright, but with small areas of pitting. No scabbard. Swords like this are not common and relate to a fascinating period in Royal Navy history. This style was still in some use at the beginning of the Napoleonic Wars.
