Product Details

EL6813 - A rare pre-numbered Wilkinson 1846 pattern Royal Navy officer's sword. While this means the sword definitely dates to 1846-1854, the fact that Wilkinson here used their earlier style of address etching up at the fuller base, instead of the ricasso, probably means that this sword dates to c.1846-1850. The blade with detailed etching, somewhat worn, and light patina, seems to have been service sharpened. It measures 30 inches long by 1 1/8 inch wide and is firm in the hilt. The guard is of the solid type, with no folding drop. The white ray skin and copper wire grip is in good condition and all tight. The scabbard is present, with an early belt ring arrangement, but with some damage - the leather has broken (shown with old taped repair) and one of the ring mounts from the locket has been torn out. This is a scarce model of sword to find from this period by Wilkinson, and although unattributed, presumably had an interesting naval service life around the time of the Crimean War and various Indian and Chinese campaigns.
