A rare number 3 Lead Cutter sword, or cutlass, by Wilkinson. These came in four weights, number 3 being the second heaviest. This has a 33 inch long blade of formidable width and weight.
These were used for 'sword feats', as detailed in manuals like John Musgrave Waite's and Professor Harrison's, whereby things like lead bars and dead sheep were chopped in half with a single blow, during public demonstrations known as 'assaults at arms'.
Complete with the original scabbard, which don't usually survive. Some loss to the end of the leather scabbard and stitching, with some small nicks to the cutting edge and light pitting in places. The guard has been broken and repaired professionally in period. The hilt is firm on the hilt.
