Product Details

EL6151 - A rare attributed/named 1899 pattern cavalry trooper's sword. The 1899 pattern is not a common sword, due to only being in service for a few years, but I have never seen one marked with both a regiment and name before. This is marked to the 21st Lancers Reserve Squadron and what looks to be H. J. Ellis. This is very likely to be Lance Corporal H. J. Ellis who died in WW1 ( https://www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/name/3036 ). There are various test and acceptance marks to the ricasso of the blade, showing that it was made at the Enfield Small Arms Factory. The blade is service sharpened and in very nice bright condition. The hilt and scabbard have been subjected to the elements more, with light pitting and black patina. The leather grips are fairly good however and are firm on the full width patent tang. A very nice example of the pattern, being particularly notable for being attributed to an interesting and famous regiment, as well as having Ellis' name on the spine of the tang.
