Product Details

EL6571 - A superb and rare late-Victorian Royal Engineers officer's sword, made by Mole for the Army & Navy Cooperative Society. This sword is not only of great quality and fantastic condition, but also very rare because it features the 1892 pattern blade. In general, Royal Engineers officers' swords retained the 1845 pattern blade until they adopted the Infantry pattern (1897). The blade of this sword carried the VR cypher, so it dates to 1892-1895 probably. Mole were a top maker of the day and official supplier of bayonets, cutlasses and lances to the War Department. The condition on this sword is excellent, with a bright and clean highly etched and detailed blade. The hilt still has about 50%+ of the original gilding, the shagreen and grip wire are very good and everything is tight and firm on the tang. Complete with its matching scabbard.
