Product Details

ELC1055 - A rare late-Napoleonic era British light cavalry officer's sabre, featuring a beak-nosed pommel and early pipe-backed blade (c. 1810-1820). This general design is often associated with Prosser, though there is no sign of a maker's mark on this example. This is a rare and desirable type of sword, in need of some restoration, particularly to the grip, which has lost quite a bit of the shagreen and been attacked by woodworm. The hilt is quite loose on the tang also, having lost the leather washer between the guard and the blade shoulder. The blade is in nice clean condition, devoid of any etching or engraving, as was normal for most of these early pipe-backs. Blade of 33 inches. The iron of the hilt could do with light cleaning, but is fundamentally in reasonable condition. A worthy project.
