EL6272 - A highly unusual Rifles Officer's sword, with a blade type I have not seen before. The blade transitions from a stout kind of pipe-back section, to a double-edged spear point. This seems to combine qualities of the 1822 pattern and the 1845 pattern blades. In some ways it is reminiscent of the sergeant's swords of the mid-19th century, but in the opposite arrangement (they have a fullered blade that has a pipe-back-like point). The etching and construction suggest to me that this was German (Solingen) made and maybe the makers 'didn't get the memo' when it came to the new 1845 pattern blade design. I don't believe this is a sergeant's sword, as it has blade etching (worn and missing in places) and no government stamps. The overall condition is average, with some light pitting to blade and hilt. The shagreen and grip wire are good. Everything is tight and it is complete with scabbard.
