EL6377 - A rare example of a pre-1788 pattern light dragoon sword, from around 1770 or 1780. The scabbard is a modern reconstruction to protect the blade. These swords are rare and very little is known about them. From their form, they seem to pre-date the 1788 pattern, but not by much. They come in brass and iron hilted variants, as detailed in Dellar's 'The British Cavalry Sword'. This example has a large, almost 36 inch, blade, which seems to have been made sharp, or service sharpened. It is firm in the hilt and very imposing to hold. The grip is ribbed shagreen, in good condition with evidence of some competent repair work in the past, at the pommel end. Overall this sword is in very good condition, with bright metalwork and all solid.
