EL6264 - A rare George IV 1822 pattern heavy cavalry officer's sword, supplied by Hamburger & Co of London. George IV examples of these do not come up very often and this was the model that directly replaced the 1796 pattern. Hamburger were a quality outfitter who got swords made by good makers of the day and supplied the well-heeled heavy cavalry officers buying their equipment in London. The blade is bright and clean, with clear etching. The hilt is quite firm on the hilt, with only a tiny bit of movement in the guard if you really look for it. The shagreen is in good condition and there is some grip wire remaining. The iron of the guard and backstrap is a little pitted and could perhaps benefit from some light cleaning. The scabbard has a layer of rust and associated pitting, with the throat unsecured but present - but it did its job of protecting the blade very well. The pipe-backed blade is 36 inches and this is a nice sword in the hand, feeling lighter than its size would suggest.
