Product Details

EL6257 - In very worn and somewhat sorry condition, but structurally sound, this is a rare pre-numbered Wilkinson infantry officer's sword (dating to 1845-53), carrying the Honourable East India Company lion, etched to both sides of the blade. The blade etching is very faint, but clearly visible is Henry Wilkinson's characteristic early name and address on the lower fuller (rather than the ricasso, as on later examples). The grip has lost all the shagreen, leaving a worn, bare wooden surface that looks like it was carried like this while still in service. The grip wire is still present and everything is surprisingly tight. The inner drop (folding section) of the guard is gone. A well-worn but rare service sword, with service sharpening, which probably had a long and interesting life in Indian campaigning.
