Product Details

ELC1046 - A rare 1890 pattern cavalry sword, dated to manufacture in 1897 and marked to both hilt and scabbard for the 21st Lancers. Together with the fact that it is service sharpened and the scabbard carries the wear and tear of hard service, this sword was pretty much certainly at the Battle of Omdurman in 1898 and therefore took part in the famous Charge of the 21st Lancers (made perhaps even more famous by Sir Winston Churchill's involvement). The sword itself is in reasonable condition, with a bright cleaning blade, hilt and scabbard. There are lots of stamps visible, and the 21st lancers designation to both guard and scabbard. The blade has been service sharpened repeatedly and carries some superficial wear and tear. The leather grips are quite good, if a little shrunken, leading to one of the rivets standing a little more proud than it should. Everything is solid and tight. An amazing piece of history, with a solid provenance.
