EL6294 - A rare Anglo-Indian officer's sabre (either for an Indian or British officer serving in India). The blade of 'Paget' type, mounted with an 1821 light cavalry style officer's hilt, but made in a copper-alloy metal instead of iron. The hilt is otherwise of typical form, with two side bars and a checkered backpiece. The pommel rounded and smooth, with visible old peen. The shagreen grip and wire are in good condition. Everything is solid, with only a tiny amount of perceptible movement to the guard. The scabbard is of heavy steel construction, and reminiscent of German-made swords, which may give a clue to where this was made, as it carried no marks to give a clue to that. The whole sword is quite dirty and would benefit from careful cleaning. The blade should certainly clean up well and is in fundamentally good condition, with a lot of original bright steel remaining. A highly unusual piece, not like any example I have had before.
