EL6492 - A rare 1892 pattern staff officer's sword. Staff officer's swords (with the crossed sword and baton emblem) are fairly uncommon, but the 1892 pattern was only in production from 1892 to 1895, so finding a combination of both is especially rare. This example needs some light restoration (cleaning really) to the blade and is missing its scabbard. A curiosity of the staff officer's sword was that some of the dress regulations mandated that they have a 34.5 inch blade, and that is found on this example (though most I have had are the normal infantry 32.5 inches). The blade has very nice etching, marred by some sort of residue (varnish?) and some localised surface corrosion - these should both be able to be improved with some careful attention. The hilt is in great shape with some gilt remaining to the brass and a very nice grip. A top quality piece, retailed by Cater, but made by top maker Pillin, with their serial number to the spine (which should date it to between 1892 and 1895).
