EL6416 - A Prussian M1849 Garde Husar cavalry sabre (dated 1850), with Prussian military markings, in need of cleaning. This sword is in generally good solid condition, with good preservation of the leather covered wooden grip, but most of it has been painted with black paint, which although having preserved the steel quite well, needs removing to bring the sword to its full glory. Many of these M1849 swords were purchased by the British War Department around the Crimean War, to equip supply chain troops (Royal Engineers Drivers), but this particular example does not seem to carry any British markings (though they may be revealed by cleaning). A big and imposing sword that feels great in the hand.
