Product Details

EL6845 - A good Napoleonic Spanish heavy cavalry sword or bilbao broadsword, from the reign of Carlos IV and dated 1797. This is similar to the M1728, but with straight quillons instead of the usual recurved type. Double-shell guard of iron, double-finger-rings, and good wire-bound grip. The hilt is all secure on the tang, though there is a little bit of movement in the pommel (it rotates on the tang a little, but it is secure). The blade, with a blue-tinged patina, is very good, with a smooth surface, no pitting, and fine edges in good condition. The blade is really impressive and measures 35 inches from the guard and 37 inches from the crossguard. The blade is stamped with Carlos IV's mark on one side and the date on the other, as well as various other maker and armoury markings.
