EL6542 - A Georgian officer's sabre, probably for an infantry or naval officer. Featuring a highly curved flat sabre blade, with false edge, having a very fine edge and clearly intended for action. No etching or engraving to the beautifully mirror polished blade, and no maker's marks. Just a very sharp and shiny blade! The brass hilt, with leather-covered wooden grip, is in good condition, though the grip wire is loose. The hilt shape possibly suggests a date in the 1790s, having some influence from both the 1788 and 1796 regulation cavalry hilts. Lacking its scabbard, which would almost certainly have been leather with brass fittings, and could be reconstructed based on similar examples. A lovely sword in the hand.
